Day One

Well, here we are on our first proper day in Sydney. We arrived yesterday at the crack of dawn and had a lovely man called Benjamin pick up up at the airport. He drove us in a Limo (organised by Diana's friend Katie) to the wrong hotel first, and then the right one, where we left our bags and then went for a blowout breakfast in Cockle Bay.

After that we came and checked into our hotel which is more of a baby apartment, and had a snooze. Once refreshed (a little bit) we went out and went into the city, looking for Gowings and then walked all the way to the Rocks where we dined upon pizza. Diana insisted on putting artichoke on it, which Joe and I thought was wack, but we ate it anyway (mostly because it had grated ham on it, and it was so good to be back in Australia all of a sudden).

The flight was as you would imagine: long and boring, but Joe was lovely and well behaved and apart from being folded up for 24 hours, it wasn't as bad as we expected.
Today I got up early and then was joined by TJM (tiny Joe Mason) and Diana who had pillow creases on her face. We got out and about and had lovely breakfast in the city, followed by a whiz round on the monorail so TJM could see the sights.

The sad news is that Gowings, my favourite shop in the world, was closed in 2006 and has turned from the best lad's outfitters and general emporium of all things boyish into what can only be described a as a girl's clothes shop, which when you think about it, is about as far as you can get from what I liked about the old place. Oh, well, I shall have to get my moustache waxed elsewhere. I mean, where else could you get a dinner suit and a jockstrap made to measure on the same premises, all while picking out some fishing tackle and an extravagantly wide brimmed hat?

We then went to the playground in Darling Harbour where we saw a man blowing gigantic bubbles which TJM was quite taken with, and then on to a quick slide and a swing before coming home for a nap.

Tonight we have bookings at Jordon's, a family favourite fish restaurant (or FFFR, for those in the know, http://www.jordonsrestaurant.com.au/home.html) where we're going to eat too much. I may even have a yabbie.
